Frequently Asked Questions
Do I
need to make a reservation to skydive?
Reservations
aren't required but are strongly suggested in order to ensure your appointment.
Are there
any age or weight restrictions?
Yes.
In order to tandem skydive you must be at least 18 years of age.
There is no upper age limit. With respect to weight limitations,
generally 230 lbs. is the maximum weight.
Can I
get video and still pictures of my skydive?
Yes.
For an additional charge, we offer a 5-10 minute video and still pictures
of your jump on CD, which includes footage on the ground, your airplane ride,
your freefall, and your landing.
Can I
share the video with another tandem skydiver?
No.
It is not possible for a freefall videographer to follow more than one
person in freefall.
How long
will the jump take?
The
day will involve paperwork and training, followed by a 20 minute airplane
ride to jump altitude, a 45-50 second freefall and a 5-10 minute parachute
ride to the landing area. Plan to spend the better part of the day
for your jump, or the whole day if you are with a large group.
What
should I wear?
Anything
comfortable. We don't recommend belts, and you will be asked to remove
jewelry. You should definitely wear tennis shoes if you have a pair, but
no boots or sandals.
Should
I eat before making my skydive?
We don't
recommend jumping on really full stomach or a very empty one, so eat something
light.
Can I
bring friends to watch?
Absolutely.
It’s always fun when friends and family come to watch. You can also
bring a picnic lunch, or buy lunch or snacks from any number of local delis
and restaurants. Children are also welcome, but must be closely watched
since the airport environment has inherent hazards. Dogs must be
kept on a leash.
Can I
bring a beer to drink?
Definitely
not. We must adhere to FAA regulations and cannot allow alcohol
on airport property while we are under operation.
What
if the parachute doesn’t open?
This
is very unlikely, but in the event of a malfunction in the main parachute,
each system is equipped with a reserve parachute that has been inspected
and packed by an FAA certified rigger. Each system is also equipped
with a back-up automatic opening device that will open the reserve parachute
if not activated by the instructor.
How hard
is the landing?
Most
landings are soft, and many people have nice stand-up landings. On
calm wind days, sometimes the forward speed of the parachute is too great
for a stand-up landing, in which case you will do a sliding landing through
the grass. You will be provided with a jumpsuit so that no matter
which landing style, you won’t soil your clothing.
Can I
go solo my first jump?
We don’t
recommend it. Tandem is the safest and easiest introduction to the
sport of skydiving, and gives you the opportunity to enjoy your first jump
without worry. It also allows you to get some hands-on training on
how to steer the canopy and land safely before you are entirely on your
own.
Do you
offer classes that will allow me to become a licensed skydiver?
Yes.
We offer several programs that will provide all of the training you will
need. Becoming a licensed skydiver requires a minimum of 25 jumps,
which is usually accomplished over a period of several weekends, depending
on your availability.
